TOP 3 TIPS TO GET YOU BACK IN THE GYM AFTER A BREAK

If you are like myself and so many others, maybe you packed on a few pounds during the last year. It certainly is understandable how you got here, but now doing something about it is a completely different monster. Insecure about the weight you’ve put on? Maybe trying to find the motivation to get back into the gym let alone getting back into your summer clothes? Let’s just start by saying you are not alone at all. Whatever it is, here are some pointers on how to get back to the gym after taking a long break and what to expect.

“Pack on a few pounds in the last year? You are not alone.”

  • Physicians say they are seeing more people reporting unexpected weight gain during the pandemic.
  • Stress eating, snacking out of boredom, challenges finding healthy food, and more time spent sedentary are contributing to weight management challenges.
  • Additionally increased stress from the pandemic and recession can make it difficult for people to focus on healthy eating and working out.

Tips for Getting back on track after a break from the gym

Whether you are coming back to work out here at Alameda Fitness & Spa or you are working out at another gym, we put together these 6 tips to help you get back into the swing of things.

1. Don’t try and pick up where you left off, aka Crawl, Walk, Run

Let’s face it, some time has passed since the last time you got it in at the gym. Chances are, if you walk in trying to lift the same amount of weight, or jump on the machines.

2. Pace yourself

You’ve been out of the gym for a while, let’s face it you’re probably out of shape. So don’t risk injury that could sideline you. Even though it may be frustrating not lifting or doing as much as you used to, just relax and take your time. Your body will thank you later.

3. Set a realistic goal

If you look in the mirror, you’ll realize it didn’t take you a day to get where you are at. So don’t try to fix it in one day. Understanding that it took time to get out of shape means you should understand it’s going to take some time to get back into shape. So create small goals and benchmarks that way you feel like you are accomplishing something and stay motivated to stick with it.

4. Your body probably won’t like you a coupe days after you start

We all know what it’s like to be super sore. Just in case you might have forgotten, your body is about to remind you. Which again is why you shouldn’t take on too much the first couple rounds. Your body isn’t going to like you very much the first few days, but it will love you soon after.

5. Make it easy on yourself and get a trainer

We all could use a little extra push sometimes, especially when we are shaking off the workout cobwebs. Here at Alameda Fitness & Spa we have some amazing personal trainers that can help guide, motivate and support you along your journey. Call for pricing and booking. CLICK TO CALL

6. Grab a FREE pass and see if you’re ready

I think we can all admit sometimes your mind wants and what your body is ready for can be two different things. So before you go buy a gym membership and new workout clothes that fit, grab a pass at your local gym and see if you are ready. At Alameda Fitness & Spa, we offer a FREE 3 DAY VIP pass that gives you access to all AFNS has to offer.
